These are a few of the most used tools in basic rituals
Hammer
A representation of Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer. Used at the opening of a ritual blot to hallow, or sanctify the area of worship.
Blot Bowl
At the end of each round of a Sumble, any Mead that is left over in the Horn is poured into the Blot Bowl. At the end of the ritual the contents are poured onto the ground, plant, etc. as a Libation to the Gods.
Horn
Most Asatru kindreds use a cow horn to share a communal drink because of the traditional significance, though any drinking vessel can be used. The significance of the horn is in the symbolism. Drinking horns are seen as representations of the Well of Wyrd. When the horn is passed and words spoken over it, those words are dropped into the Well of Wyrd and then made a part of all who partake of it. The horn is also seen as symbolic of our community. Each member through their relationship “drinks in” every other member through their interactions.
Mead (or liquid of choice)
Mead is a fermented honey and the usual choice for blots, though any beverage can be used according to dietary restriction of the participants. Alcohol is the drink of the Gods. It is in sharing this drink that we reaffirm our connection with them. The alcohol is used ceremoniously and always with the understanding that:
“There lies less good For the sons of man In Mead Then most believe
Oath Ring
The Oath Ring is one of the traditional tools used in Asatru. Upon the Oath Ring all oaths are sworn. When taking hold of the ring one is declaring their oaths not only before those gathered to witness, but also before the Gods who will mark well the words spoken. The ring is usually an unbroken circle which has long been seen as a symbol of fidelity. RKN will occasionally use a ring which is left open to symbolize to us that a binding oath begins and end with the one making it.
